Professor Ahmet Gül is Professor of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Rheumatology, at Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine. After graduating from Istanbul University, he completed his specialist training in internal medicine and rheumatology at the same institution and has been a faculty member since 1997.
An internationally recognized expert in rheumatology, Professor Gül’s research focuses on the immunopathogenesis and genetics of inflammatory rheumatic diseases, particularly Behçet’s disease, familial Mediterranean fever (FMF), autoinflammatory disorders, and vasculitis. He has conducted research at the Karolinska Institute (Sweden) and the ARC Epidemiology Research Unit (UK) and collaborates with the National Institutes of Health (USA) on the genetics of Behçet’s disease.
Professor Gül currently serves as President of the Turkish Society for Rheumatology, the Behçet’s Disease Society of Turkey, and the International Society for Behçet’s Disease. He has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, received over 16,000 citations (h-index: 63), and serves on the editorial boards of leading rheumatology journals.
